Opinion: The Wallace Street Whine and Cheese Club

PHILADELPHIA, PA - Honestly, What's happening here? I tried to take a step back and understand all of the moving parts. As we approach week 4 of the pandemic fantasy season, the league is at an apparent crossroads. There are owners accusing other owners of collusion (without evidence), we have apology requests throughout the league as if you accidentally hit someone in the face during a game of dodgeball with a wrench. And we've even seen a breakdown in basic technological capability with poor video stream quality that cast a gloomy shadow on the commissioner's week 2 press conference. Is this what the WSLOC has come to? Are we nothing more than a group of 10 fighting over who gets the last cupcake? Have we not the technology to give the commissioner the resolution he deserves? Are we all at fault? Is the system at fault? Is the toothpaste already out of the tube? Let's take a minute to break it down.

The downward spiral began with controversial GM Abyie showing up to the draft under the influence of several illicit substances. This was followed by unfounded accusations of collusion between clubs Rhino and Blockbuster (maybe G for Giant) to 'RIG' the draft supported by evidence of poor drafting by Rhino headquarters. Statements like this echoed throughout the league resulting in a snowball effect of accusations. In efforts to switch the narrative, the Rhinos accused the once 'Balding Eagle' of communism. This actually turned out to be semi-true based on the quick name change to 'The Bolsheviks'. It didn't take long for the notable clubs like Sons Plumbing Co. to join in on the accusations while outwardly promoting the Russian flag on several occasions. Sources say a league owner reported that at least 3 out of 10 clubs have requested an apology both publicly and privately. When asked for a comment, owner Nanni quipped "the requests are meaningless at this point- they mean nothing". This begs the question: Has this league gone soft? Has all of the shit talking gone too far?  One Monaco said "I say we all just have a brawl and the winner decides". When reached for comment, club owner Zecchino had some choice words. "As a friend of the commissioner he did make a mistake not creating the IR spot before the season- it was a technical error- nothing personal." He went on to say "fiery conversation is good for the league." Before ending the conversation- Zecchino did make a point to mention that he believes the Tumulturaosity (made up word acknowledged by Zecchino) incurred by the league came from poor drafting by the Rhinos. When asked for comment- league owner Azar said "I don't envy being the commissioner- I protect and shield him holding that office. I would never dispatch Robert Gooddell". "I have more of a problem with some of the other owners- the least of my worries is the commissioner- It must be hard to be the commissioner with a bunch of grumps in the league- bitching about nothing." With COVID-19 coming into play, owners are at each other's throats on waiver wire decisions and how to move forward. Player injuries are one thing- but losing top players in such unprecedented fashion begs a larger question. The league is in a full-blown frenzy on how to move forward. Should you 'play the hand' or will there be a supplemental bye week instated for teams dealing with these unprecedented times? Will ESPN sit there and do nothing as fantasy owners around the world flip and flop like a fish out water? One thing is obvious- this league has found itself nearly stationary, trudging in vein within a quagmire of turmoil that's only going to increase in intensity. The WSLOC has become the Wild West of fantasy competition- less the six shooters. With no clear action to be taken- the fate of the league remains in limbo. As always- time will tell.
